Equipment

  • 1 cup

Ingredients

  • 5 Oz. bittersweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 Cups milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 Tablespoons brandy you may want more depending on your taste

Instructions

  • Over medium heat, melt the chocolate chips. (It’s labor intensive: constantly stir to avoid scalding.)
  • Very slowly, mix in the milk. (Do not add all the milk at once; otherwise the chocolate will not blend evenly throughout the mixture.)
  • Just as slowly, whisk in the heavy cream and cornstarch.
  • Slowly bring to a boil until you find your preferred consistency. Then, add the brandy.

Notes

Adjust the boiling time to achieve your preferred consistency. If you prefer a thicker hot chocolate, allow it to simmer a bit longer.
